LOCATION OF ANGEL COTTAGE, WENHASTON, SUFFOLK

Local beaches

The area offers excellent, varied walks, birdwatching (RSPB Minsmere Bird Reserve), concerts (Snape Maltings), crabbing (Walberswick), boats galore (Southwold, Orford), pretty coastal towns with individual shops and galleries, and perhaps the best fish and chips (Dunwich, Aldeburgh).

explore the coastal habitats

There are some excellent restaurants (details available at the cottage), and local produce is plentiful - try for example, smoked cheese, chicken or fish from the smokery at Orford, or buy fresh fish and shellfish from fishing huts on the beach, asparagus and strawberries in season, and locally reared pork.

Directions
Travelling north up the A12 from Ipswich, after passing through Yoxford and crossing the railway line at Darsham, turn left at the sign for Wenhaston. Entering the village of Wenhaston, you pass on the left the lane to Woottens Nursery and further up the hill, the Star pub. After passing the church, the road rises, and on a bend, Coles Hill is on the left. Parking is on the area of land in front of the terrace of four Victorian cottages.

From the north, travelling south on the A12, after passing the second road on the left to Southwold, turn right almost immediately, signposted to Beccles and Halesworth. Take the next left turn to Halesworth, and continue until you turn left on the road into Wenhaston, opposite the Queen's Head Inn. The road rises as it enters the village, and Coles Hill is on the right with parking as described above.

By train, the nearest stations are Halesworth and Darsham, from where taxis can take you the short 10 minutes journey to Wenhaston.

"Angel Cottage could not be a better base for discovering Southwold and the pier, Walberswick, Aldeburgh, and great meals at the Queens Head, Bramfield and The Lighthouse, Aldeburgh. Thank you"Mr & Mrs J of Wilts
